This exhibition is a visual celebration of the wondrous scenery of Canada. The definition of “Scenes” for the purpose of this exhibition extends beyond landscapes, to scenes from our daily lives and our cities.

What you can enter

FormatIn the gallery in Vancouver, with the work also shown online. Accepted work must be delivered; you cannot choose online only.
Media acceptedOil, acrylic, water media, pastel, encaustic, pen and ink, pencil, graphite, and hand-pulled prints in runs of under 200. For mixed media, list every medium used, including mediums and gels.
Not acceptedDigital art, photography, giclée (hand-modified or not), pyrography, and any work that relies heavily on mechanical reproduction.
SizeNo larger than 84 inches tall or 48 inches wide, including the frame. Work on a cradled panel or canvas must be at least 1½ inches deep; thinner work is fine if it is framed. If the work will hang framed, give the framed size and price when you enter: they cannot be added later.
PresentationFramed or unframed (unframed work must meet the depth above). Edges of a cradled panel must be bare, or fully painted in a complementary colour or a continuation of the work; the edges of gallery-wrapped canvas can continue the image or be painted a complementary colour. Wire every piece a third of the way down with D-rings and plastic-coated wire; work that is not wired properly is charged $20.
Subject and styleScenes of Canada: landscapes, and scenes from daily life and our cities. All styles.

If your work sells

Everything you enter must be for sale, at $200 or more. Prices cannot be changed once entered.

You receive 65% of the sale price; the Federation keeps 35%.

The Federation may negotiate up to 10% off your price, and pays artists by cheque within 30 days of a sale.

General FCA submission guidelines
  • Your own work. Reference photos must be your own, or an amateur photographer’s used with their express consent. Stock images and photos by professional photographers are not allowed, even with permission or a paid licence; stock may only be used for anatomical study. Work made in a workshop or class cannot be entered, and neither can work that has already shown at Federation Gallery (chapter shows are fine).
  • One of a kind. Each piece must be one of a kind (prints in runs under 200) and finished to an archival standard. For mixed media, list every medium you used.
  • Your images and details. Photograph the work on its own: no background, frame or visible edges, straight and the right way up. Blurry or badly cropped images are declined without a refund. Give the medium and what it is on (canvas, paper, board or panel), and a one or two sentence description; it is printed on the gallery label. Nothing can be changed after the deadline.
  • Results. Each piece is Accepted (shown in the gallery and online), Recognized (shown online only) or Declined. There is no individual feedback, and the decision is final. Contacting a juror about your entry removes it from the exhibition.
  • Once accepted. From the results email your work is under contract with the Federation: do not sell it elsewhere. Withdrawing or selling an accepted or recognized piece costs $100, removes the Elected Status point it earned, and you cannot enter another Federation exhibition until the fee is paid.
  • Delivery and insurance. You pay shipping both ways, including customs and import fees; include a prepaid return waybill if you ship. The FCA does not insure artwork, in transit or on the wall. Late delivery is $50, work arriving early or left uncollected is $20 a piece per week, and work that is not wired properly is $20. Questions about shipping go to [email protected].
  • Entry fees. Entry fees are in Canadian dollars and are not refundable.
